Emotional Resilience and Neurofeedback

Emotional Resilience When Your World Falls Apart

“After starting with the NeurOptimal® equipment, I went from having 2-3 terrible moments daily since my husband’s affair to 2-3 terrible moments in 2 weeks. And I’ve only had about 10 sessions so far.”                                                                                                                             -Kelly Denver, CO

Many of us have experienced events in our lives that have turned us inside out. From infidelity to sexual assault to war to childhood abuse, many of us can relate to the inability to sleep or to sleep soundly, to the triggers that come out of nowhere, or the loss of energy and focus. As a therapist for the last 21 years, I’ve seen the good that counseling can do here. I have also seen that sometimes people need additional tools, specifically tools that can assist in brain optimization.

How Does Neuroptimal® Neurofeedback Help?

When stress or trauma is significant enough, the normal stress relieving tools you may have, simply don’t work as well anymore. This is where brain training comes in. While NeurOptimal® does not diagnose or treat any illness, it can make treating trauma much more doable and effective. Neurofeedback brain training promotes deep relaxation and a more well regulated nervous system, which makes healthy life style choices, better sleep habits, and better stress management more doable. Each of these are identified specifically by the Mayo Clinic as important parts of living better with PTSD*among other stressful issues we face. But beyond this, NeurOptimal® helps people see their lives differently. People become more emotionally, mentally, and physically resilient which makes coping with whatever they are coping with easier. Here’s what one woman, who experienced sexual molestation by a family friend had to say after using NeurOptimal®:

“I definitely think it works. It has allowed me to be able to get in a better place. Meaning I have more of an ability to stop letting the memories bother me.”                                                                                                                                                         -Samantha Roswell, GA

Here’s what another one of our clients who experienced severe childhood abuse had to say:

I have felt stuck in some of the same emotions and patterns my whole life. After hedging some and feeling unsure as to what neurofeedback is and really does, I decided to give it a try. It has been life-changing for me. The training has addressed my brain fog, overall sense of wellbeing, and my ability to maintain more steady reactions to events throughout my day. I have also noticed that my negative self-talk has decreased significantly. I truly look forward to my neurofeedback sessions and find an extreme sense of calm immediately after.     -Georgia

NeurOptimal® gives the brain the information it needs to move itself, and you, toward greater stability and adaptability. One of the most important functions of the Central Nervous System (CNS) is to help the body naturally oscillate between “go mode” and “calm focused mode.” When the brain experiences a trauma, the CNS loses some of its ability to slow itself down and get itself back into its natural rhythm.

NeurOptimal® has been around for 20 years; it’s founders much longer. Because of advancements in the technological and neurological sciences neurofeedback (via NeurOptimal®) has become more accessible financially and in terms of ease of use. Clients see improvements as early as the first session, but more commonly after several. The number of sessions depends on how much you’d like to achieve with an understanding that every CNS, every brain, is different. Some folks train for just a handful of sessions and some train for years because they find the experience deeply relaxing and the continued results compelling. After over 150 sessions (and counting) for myself, I can say that the improvements continue. After my own experiences with childhood trauma, I can say how important NeurOptimal® has been to my happiness, peace of mind, creativity, and productivity.

Maybe you’re about ready to start your brain training experience but still have a few questions.

Is neurofeedback training safe?

Neurofeedback training is non-invasive, and does not have any known side effects. It is safe enough to be used with pregnant mothers, infants, and children. Nonlinear neurofeedback is natural and uses the brain’s own inherent intelligence and self-correcting impulses to work. Your brain is simply being given information that it uses to run more efficiently.

How much does neurofeedback training cost?

Whole Family Neurofeedback offers both in-office and at-home training options for those looking to start neurofeedback training. Miriam is also a Sales Rep for NeurOptimal®, so if you are interested in a purchase for unlimited, at-home training, let her know, and she can get you the information you need.  Be sure to check out our Services page to see more details about the different plans and pricing we offer. We want to remove as many hurdles as we can for you to get started with brain training, so every first, in-office session is discounted (only one discounted session per family). If you decide to rent, the fee is counted towards your rental. Brain training isn’t cheap but ultimately saves people money. It saved my family about $500 a month from the very beginning!

Can I still be on medication while doing neurofeedback training?

Currently over half of people who start neurofeedback training are on medication, so it’s not a problem at all. You must talk with your doctor to assess any changes you wish to make.

I have been in and out of therapy for most of my adult life and felt stuck in some of the same emotions and patterns for years, despite the fact that therapy has been tremendously helpful to me (and specifically Miriam who is hands down the best). After hedging some and feeling unsure as to what neurofeedback is and really does, I decided to give it a try. It has been life-changing for me. The training has addressed my brain fog, overall mood, and my ability to maintain a less anxious and more steady reaction to events throughout my day. I have also noticed that my negative self-talk has decreased significantly. I truly look forward to my neurofeedback sessions and find an extreme sense of calm immediately after.
